Josef Mžyk was born in Vienna (1944), studied at Prague Academy, but also in Paris in the École des Beaux-Arts under the famous Olivier Debré. Not long ago his multiform and individual production was presented in Mánes in Prague and before that, on numerous occasions, in Czech and foreign exhibitions. The most important of them comprised of presentations in Paris and other French cities such as Rouen, Nîmes, and Caen and also in the German Kunsthalle, Lübeck and in Tokyo, Japan. The current exposition in the Ostrava Magna Gallery give us a chance to inspect Mžyk’s works, in which “he evolves to a synthesis of elements of classic modernity and elements of pop and op-art” (Björn Engholm).
